Sssshhhhh…itís a secret! We all like to dance around money. Itís the elephant in the room. Itís an emotionally charged area. Money is the body consciousness of the business world. We have fear and worry regardless of whether our budgets are pumped up or wimpy. “Will someone take advantage of me?” “Am I paying too much?” “Will I get what I pay for?”

I have danced this waltz from all sides: as a client on the corporate side, as an account representative in an agency and as a brand catalyst for clients today.

Unfortunately, no one benefits from you keeping your budget a secret. Any legitimate branding firm will advise you according to what you can afford and give you a realistic program to meet your budget. They will respect a small budget and, if you are unable to afford their firm, may recommend other avenues for you.

Conversely, donít assume that if your budget is generous that an agency will find ways to spend every dime. At least a reputable firm that wants to have a long-term relationship wonít be foolish enough to do so.

The best way to protect your budget is to do some due diligence and prepare:

Being transparent about your budget, realistic about your expectations and prepared for an open discussion will allow you to get the most bang for your branding buck and results with which you will be satisfied.
