Is Your Brand an Old Sole? Getting out of your comfort zone
When we traveled in Italy a couple of years back I was amazed at the grace and perseverance of the stylish young women in their stilettos navigating the cobblestone streets. It made my feet ache and knees wobble just looking at them.
While I like a gorgeous and stylish shoe as much as the next person, there are few things that give more pleasure than slipping my feet into a pair of broken in shoes. The well worn old soles comfort and caress every nook and bump of my feet and remind me of the travels on which they’ve taken me. I wouldn’t trade them for Manolos.
It’s all too easy to avoid keeping our style fresh, new and noticeable. Why try something that may be wobbly, painful or just not work? Stick with what is safe and comfortable, even if it looks tired and worn.
We can easily slip into this comfort zone in branding—the old “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality. However, if you fail to keep your brand relevant, fresh and noticeable, it is “broke.” It may feel comfortable to you, but that old sole may be looking decrepit and tired to prospects.
Change is always a little uncomfortable, but if you take the time to find the right fit, your brand can flaunt the value it brings to clients in high style.
